Fixie Hop
Hehe I laid down the fixie hop challange to Hoffman/Seventies Jon Taylor and as you can see it backfired... JT is rocking the new Subrosa fixie that we'll have in store this next week.

Customer dropped this Kinesis frame and fork in for a build and Rick here was only to happy to "fix" him up :)

Manchester to Blackpool Bike ride.

Manchester to blackpool in aid of the Wigan and Leigh Hospice. 60 odd miles .Fixie Fixed wheel .
Er.....
Very good.
All in all a very well organised event . Superb crack on the road . A real feeling of cameraderie ,taking back the streets ,and all that with over 8000 others. Good near perfect weather too.
Fixed wheels is the way forward ,as it were. I'm not saying the lack of gears and general modern accoutrements is correct in every situation ,but even with a few lumps here and there ,it was pretty good. Downhills are ,um ,challenging ,but they bob along quite well anywhere else. We did it in just over 4hrs inc' a few feed stops . OK ,I suppose.
Scary moment coming into Preston I hit two potholey/grids at top speed ,the first unsettling me and the second nearly having me off at about 25+mph.
My own personal less enjoyable bit came as we hit the windmill near Lytham a few miles from the finish . I suddenly became V.tired . I dunno . I'd filled my bottle at the feed stop in Preston ,something like an hour previous ,and from there we'd set a fairly cracking pace. Into a stiff headwind I was really struggling ,although still overtaking a few riders , but really bonking ,running on empty. I grabbed my bottle, and from Preston I'd only had maybe a mouthful. Doh ! . I chugged a good half of the bottle and basically instantly ,well,within minutes , felt back to normal . It was right near the end ,but it just goes to show how important it is to fuel up the old bod.
Alan,had a good day too. He was running his Surly with a slightly lower gear than me . Only a few teeth in it ,but whilst it's a bit easier going uphill ,coming down is not so good . His legs quickly maxed out at terminal velocity , making for sketchy descents. Whilst I was 'digging deep' coming out of Lytham ,he was on the back of a bunch winding up to the finish in a team time trial stylee.
As last week ,Toby did ace ,on basically his second ever proper bike ride ,albeit with gears etc etc , pah ! He was flying along nicely .Quite an impressive result ,and hopefully not his last .
Mark ( the weirdo out of the shop ) and Paul (the weirdo out of the shop's mate)were chilling out on their Cannondale mountainbikes ,slick tyred up of course. They did OK coming in a while after us looking a bit tired ,but in good spirits. Well done . For someone who doesnt regularly cycle ,it's quite a thing.
Alex drove the van and fixed some punctures wearing a fancy shirt.
Oh ,and Alan smashed up the van before we'd even set off ,ensuring the classic ride status of the day for all time.
You'll have to google for some pictures ,cos I only took one and it was a bit rubbish.

ALTRUISM
"I saw two shooting stars last night ,
I wished on them ,
but they were only satellites ....."
Completely and utterly selfless acts were the order of the day.
And toast and marmalade...and cake....and filter coffee......
No great big Dostoevsky-esque write ups needed today . Blimey ,that's a mouthful . Almost as big as that Victoria Sponge.
Fascists.
I only pretended to enjoy it. The apparently green ,eco friendly ,beardy weirdy ,biodegradeable 'Lavender Farm',(or something,how twee !!) cafe ,was clearly a well organised 'front' for an American consortium of fast food outlets bankrolled by the NWO. The fact that the food was neither fast ,nor unappealing was testament to the lengths these operations will go.
Next week we're doing the Manchester/Blackpool charity bike ride ,in aid of our local hospice.Some of us ,me inc' ,are doing it 'fixed wheel ',some singlespeed ,some unfortunately ,as well as doing it for lesser deserving charities ,will be using very ordinary ,mediocre ,geared bikes.
The uni-geared lot ,me still inc', need a little shakedown before the big day ,so ,here we are on our warm-up ride. A relatively gentle ,flattish spin out to Dunham Massey near Altrincham,south M/cr way. I've been to this neck of the woods a number of times ,and even commuted through here ,but never on a bike with less gears than I have ears ,and certainly with the facility to coast every so often . It's definitely the longest distance I've done fixed.
OK ,all in all ,good ride ,good company ,good weather,good caff. Notable mention goes to Toby Woods ,who ,on what was only his second proper roadie ride ,smashed his personal best distance record by some 40+ miles. On only a 40 odd mile ride. The most he'd previously ever done was about 2 miles. Well done . I didnt actually see it ,but as I write ,I am assuming he made it home.
Rick came on his commute/hack that really needed a wash.
Tony Holland came on a full suss mountainbike ,but cheated , making it easy ,by 'locking out' the bouncy bits.
Andy came on a Kona mass produced singlepeed that he bought in ASDA.
Alan ,who is a capitalist,came on a bike with purple tyres. He pretended it was fixed wheel.
So ,I win ,beacause I came on a bike made out of recycled yoghurt pots (organic),and old off cuts of string . And postage stamps . And it was from a Blue Peter bring and buy sale. And is brown ,which you all know ,is the colour of socialism.

More Tracers
More Intense Tracer's on their way to some lucky customers. The Works Red was on our frame swop programme - give us your old bike we'll fit a Tracer frame for you (we accidentally deleted the pic of the finished bike - doh).
The Intense Red one is a complete bike using the kit the same as on the Works one we have in shop.
We are getting known for our custom Intense builds so if you have a hankering - you know where to come!
